NOHS Gay Straight Alliance
OUR MISSON
Acceptance, hope, and equality are three important pillars that make up the North Oldham High school Gay Straight Alliance. We stand for all of the LGBTQIA+ students and faculty in the school, the city, and the state.
A great way to understand our beliefs is to read the quote beside this paragraph, "All young people, regardless of sexual orientation or identity, deserve a safe and supportive enviroment in which to achieve their full potential" - Harvey Milk. This is the mission of the NOHS GSA.
In order to promote our mission, we do activist work in our small and large community, educate the students of North on LGBTQIA+ issues, and provide our meeting space as a think tank for our activism as well as a safe communal place for all of the LGBTQIA+ students at North as well as our straight allies. Most importantly, we hope to inspire each member of the NOHS GSA to promote activism and equality in their every day lives. All supporters of the community are welcome, for we cannot do this alone!

OUR HISTORY
The first North Oldham Gay Straight Alliance meeting took place in the end of 2013. The club was founded by Lindsay Gilbert, a now NOHS allumn, in order to spread the word about LGBTQIA+ issues, as well as provide a union for members of the community as well as allies in the school.
Since that first meeting, we have met every week to discuss issues, plan activist events, and talk about our own lives as LGBTQIA+ people and as supporters. We have been to the state capital twice with the Fairness Campaign, a grassroots Kentucky campaign than pushes for the rights of LGBTQIA+ people as well as other miniority groups. We have atttended both years of Louisville Pride since our club's conception. Fundraisers such as bakesales have allowed us to fund club tee shirts as well as provide donations to the fairness campaign. We spread our good spirit through holiday events throughout the school year as well.
At the NOHS GSA, forward momentum is key. We can always do more in our community, at higher and higher levels, each year. We will continue to promote our mission in a bigger and brighter way this year, and we hope that you will join us!
